The following are some success stories sent into us from former campers.
- An intense experience that combines on-the-floor performance with excellent classroom instruction.
Andre Bellinger, Los Angeles, Ca
The instruction that I received at the Santa Barbara camp paid off for me in a big way. I did not get picked up by any JC assigners, but that was not my goal. My goal was to be a better high school official, and that is what I have become. I got a great high school schedule and advanced in the playoffs to the state level. More importantly, is that I have become more confident and more comfortable while officiating. That will pay off for years to come. I would recommend this camp to all officials, not just the ones who want to move up to the JC level. I may attend this camp again this year.
Brian Carr, Fresno, Ca
The JC Basketball Officials Developmental Camp was one of the best investments I've made in my progressing officiating career. Being able to officiate elite high school teams, coupled with the on-court feedback of experienced college officials, all within first-class facilities offered at UC Santa Barbara, I couldn't have asked for a better environment to grow and learn as an official.
La Donte King, Santa Barbara, Ca
I have found the JC basketball officials camp at UCSB to be a great learning experience because of the unique peer mentoring program. Like other camps, there are high level observers and assigners providing teaching, but at UCSB, they also utilize experienced and accomplished JC and high school officials for on-court, mentorship and support. This creates for a comfortable environment for learning. This camp absolutely helped me grow and move ahead as an official when I attended as a camper and it has continued to help me grow and move ahead as I work as a peer mentor.
Rich Cole, Thousand Oaks, Ca
I had a phenomenal season, both at the high school and JC level. I was picked up in the Western States Conference as a result of attending the JC camp. I worked the LA City Finals, and the finals for the state southern section. I feel this was largely due to the camp experience I had in Santa Barbara. The instruction, speakers, and observers, helped me to work on areas in which I needed to improve upon. Dr. White's camp at UCSB has definitely propelled me in the right direction. I look forward to attending the CCAA camp this summer in Las Vegas. Thank you for everything.
Nathan Bond, Valencia, Ca
The JC Developmental Camp at Santa Barbara is a truly exceptional camp. This camp has propelled my officiating career into the college ranks and has provided me the opportunity to work a full JC schedule. Officials are evaluated by top Division I officials from the Pac-10 and other major conferences, including several who have worked the "Big Dance". Campers also receive a tremendous amount of off-court instruction in the classroom setting to discuss the nuances of the game with college officials and coaches. The Santa Barbara camp is the best value around. Whether you are looking to advance into college officiating or just simply improve your skills, you NEED to be at this camp.
Patrick Atkins, Fresno, Ca
After attending the JC Development Camp, I was picked up to work women's basketball in the Western States Conference. I had a great season which included 14 assigned tournaments and regular season games. I worked with some outstanding officials and am looking forward to another great season next year.
Steve Lavagnino, Santa Maria, Ca
- I was given my first opportunity to work college basketball by Dr. White, as a result of attending the JC camp at UCSB. My confidence level for high school basketball has increased 100%. Thanks for the confidence you showed in me and for the great experience at Santa Barbara.
Ian Caldwell, Camarillo, Ca
I was picked up by the Western States Conference last year and had an enjoyable first season working college basketball. I owe this to a great camp, which allowed me to continue to improve my officiating and to apply techniques and concepts in game settings. Thanks and hope to see you again at camp this year.
