Sportslink Collegiate Basketball Officials Camp

This year, Sportlink Camps are offering two (2) exciting camps. The camps are designed to meet the individual needs of each official, and will be divided into two Tiers (See descriptions below).Both camps will experience the same opportunities and activitiesprovided on the beautiful campus of U.C. Santa Barbara. The onlyexception will be the grouping of officials within their respectiveTier for game assignments, which will be held in conjunction with theUCSB Boy’s Varsity Team Camp held in the Thunderdome on campus.

Sportslink Camps are among the premier teaching camps for basketball officials in the entire state.The Camp Staff excels in working with officials to refine their gameand move them to the next level of officiating. Staff members arecommitted to the philosophy that “Each official will leave camp a much better official than when they arrived”.

Camp Descriptions


TIER ONE: From High School to a Community College Prospect

Yourselection of this Tier will provide the best possible opportunity tolearn about the “College Game” at the Community College level. Inaddition to classroom instruction on critical topics of interest,officials will work 2-4 games a day. While demonstrating your skills onthe floor, the three-person crew will include a College Mentor who isthere to help you grow as an official. Your experience will alsoinclude an opportunity to be observed by College Assigners and top NCAAofficials. You will benefit from their direct feedback on each of yourgames.

Menand Women’s Community College Assigners will also be present toevaluate the potential of each official for movement into the CommunityCollege game. Bring your “A” game to camp along with a positiveattitude.

Your willingness to put yourself in view of colleagues and demonstrate a desire to improve your skills, makes you a special person worthy of advancement. Details will be sent out upon receipt of Registration and payments.

Adiscussion and presentation on Three-Person Mechanics will take placeprior to officials working any scheduled games. All games will beofficiated by crews of three. If you’ve never worked on a crew withthree officials, DON’T WORRY, you’ll learn quickly and enjoy the experience.

TIER TWO: CCAA Basketball Officials Annual Prospect Camp


TheCalifornia Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), the top Division IIConference in the country, is once again holding its annual CCAABasketball Officials Developmental Camp for Prospects this year. In itscontinuing effort to both improve the quality of officiating andaccommodate the ever increasing number of officials aspiring to gainexposure and further develop their skills, a select number of officialswill be invited to attend this camp. 

Tier 2 is designed to give qualified men and women officials, previous with college officiating experience,an opportunity to demonstrate their readiness to move into Division IIbasketball. A current CCAA Staff member will be assigned to each crewto provide encouragement and mentoring during games. 

CCAA Assigners and Observers will assess each official as to immediate or future acceptance into the conference. The CCAA continues to be in a hiring mode, as evidenced by hiring 19 officials from last year’s camp.

Sincethe camp combines floor observation and classroom instruction,participants will be working, observed, and evaluated between 2-4 gamesa day. All games will be officiated by crews of three. Bring your“AA”game to camp along with a positive attitude.
