Sportslink Collegiate Basketball Officials Camp

Summer Camp Opportunities for Self Improvement

and Advancement

Come Together.  Be Transformed.  Make A Difference.

By popular demand, again his year Sportslink Camps are offering Two (2) exciting camps. The camps are designed to meet the individual needs of each official, and will be divided into Two Tiers (see descriptions below).  Both camps will experience the same opportunities and activities provided on the beautiful campus of U.C. Santa Barbara. The only exception will be the grouping of officials within their respective Tier for game assignments, which will be held in conjunction with the UCSB Boy’s Varsity Team Camp held in the Thunderdome on campus.

Sportslink Camps are among the Premier Teaching Camps for Basketball Officials in the entire state.  The Camp Staff excels in working with officials to refine their game and move them to the next level of officiating. Staff members are committed to the philosophy that “Each official will leave camp a much better official than when they arrived”.

TIER ONE: From High School to a Community College Prospect

Floor Mentor demonstrating a Call

Dr. David White Instructing on
3-person Mechanics
Your selection of this Tier will provide the best possible opportunity to learn about the “College Game” at the Community College level. In addition to classroom instruction on critical topics of interest, officials will work 2-4 games a day. While demonstrating your skills on the floor, the three-person crew will include a College Mentor who is there to help you grow as an official. Your experience will also include an opportunity to be observed by College Assigners and top NCAA officials. You will benefit from their direct feedback on each of your games.

Men's and Women’s Community College Assigners will also be present to evaluate the potential of each official for movement into the Community College game.  Bring your “A” game to camp along with a positive attitude.

Your willingness to put yourself in view of colleagues and demonstrate a desire to improve your skills, makes you a special person worthy of advancement. Details will be sent out upon receipt of Registration and payments.

A discussion and presentation on Three-Person Mechanics will take place prior to officials working any scheduled games. All games will be officiated by crews of three. If you’ve never worked on a crew with three officials, DON’T WORRY, you’ll learn quickly and enjoy the experience.

TIER TWO: CCAA Basketball Officials Annual Prospect Camp

The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), the top Division II Conference in the country, is once again holding its annual CCAA Basketball Officials Developmental Camp for Prospects this year.  In its continuing effort to both improve the quality of officiating and accommodate the ever increasing number of officials aspiring to gain exposure and further develop their skills, a select number of officials will be invited to attend this camp.

Tier 2 is designed to give qualified men and women officials, previous with college officiating experience, an opportunity to demonstrate their readiness to move into Division II basketball. A current CCAA Staff member will be assigned to each crew to provide encouragement and mentoring during games.

CCAA Assigners and Observers will assess each official as to immediate or future acceptance into the conference. The CCAA continues to be in a hiring mode, as evidenced by hiring 19 officials from last year’s camp.

Since the camp combines floor observation and classroom instruction, participants will be working, observed, and evaluated between 2-4 games a day. All games will be officiated by crews of three. Bring your “AA” game to camp along with a positive attitude.

Officials interested in this camp should complete the ON-Line Registration Form and email a brief Resume of background and experience to SPORTLNK@PACBELL.NET.
